Men's Volleyball Sweeps Park Gilbert in Three Sets

The Benedictine Mesa Men's Volleyball team secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Park Gilbert, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-20.

Set 1:

Benedictine Mesa (AZ) opened the match with a commanding 25-14 win. The Redhawks quickly established a lead behind strong performances from Landon Fuller, John Jakaitis, and Josh Beymer. Fuller registered an early kill off a Jakaitis assist, while Beymer contributed with key blocks and kills to extend the lead.

Park-Gilbert fought back with solid plays from Jonah Baich and Azzlyn Potts, narrowing the gap at times. However, unforced errors—particularly attack and service miscues—allowed Benedictine to maintain control. With Jakaitis directing the offense and Fuller leading the attack, the Redhawks closed out the set on a Park-Gilbert attack error, securing the 25-14 win.

Set 2:

The second set was more competitive, but Benedictine still emerged victorious with a 25-20 score. The Redhawks capitalized on early Park-Gilbert errors while Dapre Rogers and Chase Jensen fueled the offense.

Park-Gilbert kept the set close with kills from Azzlyn Potts and Dominic Smith, but Benedictine's blocking presence—led by Jensen and Beymer—helped them regain control. Despite strong efforts from Jonah Baich and Jake Burdick, Benedictine maintained momentum. Rogers and Beymer delivered crucial kills, and though Park-Gilbert closed the gap to 24-20, Benedictine sealed the set with a decisive Beymer kill to take a 2-0 match lead.

Set 3:

Park-Gilbert started strong in the third set, capitalizing on Benedictine errors and earning early points from Dominic Smith and Jose Lopez. However, Benedictine quickly regained control, with Landon Fuller and Josh Beymer leading the charge.

A mid-set rally by Park-Gilbert, including back-to-back service aces from Azzlyn Potts, kept them in the fight. Strong defense from Dominic Smith and Jonah Baich also helped slow Benedictine's attack. But John Jakaitis' playmaking and the offensive power of Rylon Raczka and Trevor Weinert allowed the Redhawks to stay ahead.

Park-Gilbert pushed late, with Jeff Agcaoili and Jonah Baich cutting the deficit to 23-20. However, Josh Beymer's killput Benedictine at match point, and Rylon Raczka finished it off with a final kill from a Jakaitis assist, sealing the 3-0 sweep.
