The Benedictine Mesa men's volleyball team secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Jamestown on Thursday evening, winning with set scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-23.
Set 1
Benedictine Mesa took control early, opening with a kill from Landon Fuller off a set from John Jakaitis. While Jamestown's Ajani Layne responded with a kill, Benedictine quickly pulled ahead, capitalizing on attack errors by Jamestown. Strong blocking from Jakaitis and Trevor Weinert helped maintain their momentum, forcing a Jamestown timeout at 8-3. Despite a push from Tysen Myers and Benjamin Allred, Benedictine stayed in control. A service ace by Fuller and a final kill from Ben Turcinec sealed the set at 25-17.
Set 2
Benedictine Mesa started strong again, jumping to a 4-0 lead behind kills from Fuller and Josh Beymer, along with an attack error by Benjamin Allred. Jamestown fought back, closing the gap to 10-7 with a service ace from Ethan Hoffert, but Benedictine's frontline—led by Weinert and Fuller—continued to dominate. Jamestown stayed within striking distance at 16-12, but errors hampered their comeback. Fuller and Turcinec delivered key points late, and a service error by Niemiec handed Benedictine the 25-19 win and a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3
Determined to extend the match, Jamestown came out aggressive, taking the first point on a kill from Michal Niemiec. However, Benedictine capitalized on Jamestown's errors to take an early 4-2 lead. The teams exchanged points in a back-and-forth battle until Benedictine pulled ahead 8-5 after consecutive service aces from Turcinec, prompting a Jamestown timeout.
Benedictine extended their lead to 13-6 before Jamestown responded with a serving run by Myers, closing the gap to 13-9. Back-to-back service aces from Niemiec kept Jamestown in the fight, bringing them within two at 17-15. Despite a late surge, Benedictine's experience proved decisive. Fuller, Beymer, and Weinert delivered clutch kills to maintain the edge. At 24-23, it seemed Jamestown might force extra points, but Fuller sealed the match with a kill assisted by Jakaitis, securing the 25-23 set win and the 3-0 sweep.
