The Benedictine Mesa Baseball team wrapped up their season with a hard-fought doubleheader split against The Master's University, taking a thrilling 4-3 win in game one before falling 7-2 in game two.
Game 1 Recap:
In the opener, the Redhawks showcased grit and resilience in a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory. The Master's struck first in the opening inning, plating a run on a double play. Benedictine responded in the second when Jacob Bauler grounded out to shortstop, bringing home Oliver Davies to even the score at 1-1.
The Master's regained a 3-1 lead by the third, but the Redhawks chipped away in the sixth with an RBI single from Davies that scored AJ Fernandez. In the seventh, Benedictine took advantage of a defensive error, allowing Bauler to cross home plate and tie the game at 3-3. Then in the top of the ninth, Bauler came up big again—launching a solo home run to left field to give the Redhawks their first lead of the game. The bullpen locked it down in the bottom half to seal the 4-3 win.
Game 2 Recap:
In game two, Benedictine Mesa couldn't overcome The Master's early offensive surge, dropping the contest 7-2. The Mustangs took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but Tyler Jackson brought the Redhawks level in the third with a solo homer to left field. The Master's quickly responded with a two-RBI single to reclaim the lead and didn't look back, adding four more runs over the next two innings to go up 7-1.
The Redhawks added one more run in the seventh when Bauler drove in Kyle Fenner with a sacrifice fly, but the deficit proved too large to overcome in the late innings.
