Mesa, Ariz. – The Benedictine Redhawks execute well against University of California Merced Bobcats on Friday night's performance in a 3-0 clean sweep.
Comparable to the order of a plot diagram, each of the three sets could represent the labels of the rising action being the first, climax being the second and falling action being the third.
Set 1 - Benedictine 25, Merced 22
Both teams had taken shots at each other in the first set with several ties and lead changes until the 17-17 mark. After that Ben U took the lead and never looking back capitalizing on costly errors by the Bobcats finishing the set 25-22.
Set 2 - Benedictine 38, Merced 36
After feeling each other out in the first set, each team took turns with runs on their own in the match early. Merced reached its 12th point with a one point lead creating some cushion extending their lead to as high as four points at 15-11.
Although still down the Redhawks kept the score close thanks to some costly errors from the Bobcats. Important kills from Chase Jensen and Ethan Russel perfectly set up assists from John Jakaitis also gave Ben U life, eventually tying the score at 18 a piece.
Merced had an opportunity to take the game with a 24-22 lead but the Redhawks kept clawing back, tying it to stay alive. The sequence after this resulted in a lengthy exhilarating exchange with over 10 ties as Ben U finally won 38-36.
Set 3 - Benedictine 25, Merced 18
The Redhawks finally took full control in the middle of the third after taking a 14-13 lead over the Bobcats, never looking back, winning dominantly 25-18.
