Benedictine University Mesa Men's Basketball is headed to Waxahachie, Texas, after earning an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round, where the Redhawks will face No. 9 Southwestern College (Kan.) on Friday, March 13. This marks Benedictine Mesa's third appearance in the national tournament and its first as a member of the GSAC. The Redhawks enter the postseason with an impressive 24–6 record, while Southwestern arrives with a 21–9 mark. The matchup will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Benedictine Mesa is led by standout transfers who made significant impacts throughout the season. Isaiah Howard, a transfer from LSU Alexandria, was named the GSAC Newcomer of the Year and earned All-Conference honors after averaging 14.3 points per game and ranking third in the conference with 3.9 assists per contest. Teammate Eric Blackwell, a transfer from Menlo College, was also selected to the GSAC All-Conference Team and led the conference in three-point shooting with a remarkable .510 percentage.
The Opening Round, including both the first and second rounds, will be hosted by Nelson University in Waxahachie. The four-team site features No. 1 Nelson, No. 8 Benedictine Mesa, No. 9 Southwestern, and No. 16 Arkansas Baptist.
