Benedictine Mesa battled through four quarters but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 40–6 to Hope International on Thursday.
The Redhawks found themselves trailing early as Hope International struck twice in the first quarter. A 51-yard touchdown pass followed by a short rushing score gave the Royals a 14–0 advantage by the end of the opening frame. Despite defensive adjustments, Hope International added another touchdown early in the second quarter to extend the lead to 20–0.
Benedictine Mesa broke through late in the first half. Quarterback Nia Gille connected with Nicole Cruz on a 22-yard touchdown pass, giving the Redhawks a much-needed spark and putting points on the board before halftime. The score cut the deficit to 20–6 heading into the break and provided momentum going into the second half.
Hope International regained control after halftime, scoring twice in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 33–6. Benedictine Mesa continued to compete defensively, but the Royals capitalized on short fields and sustained drives. Hope International added one final touchdown early in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
