The Benedictine Mesa women's soccer team fell to Hope International 8-1 on Saturday afternoon in GSAC action at Al Barbour Field. The Royals used a strong offensive performance, totaling 44 shots and scoring twice in the opening half before adding six goals after the break.
Hope International opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Angely Puga found the back of the net and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime after Karissa Frerichs scored in the 45th minute. The Royals quickly extended their advantage early in the second half with goals from Clarissa Viera and Frerichs before adding scores from Emely Bravo, Alexis Gamboa, and Raejai-Li Librando.Â
The Redhawks continued to battle and found a breakthrough in the 84th minute when Neshma Rodriguez converted a penalty kick for her second goal of the season.
In goal, Tatum Lally made seven saves in the first half, while Nenna Ford recorded nine saves after entering at halftime. Benedictine finished with 16 total saves on the afternoon.Â
Offensively, the Redhawks generated seven shots, with Rebecca Tomerlin leading the way with three attempts and two shots on goal. Neshma Rodriguez added two shots, both on target, including her penalty-kick tally, while Cassandra Sandoval recorded a shot on goal.
