Box Score 2 MESA, Ariz. – The Benedictine Uiversity Mesa men's basketball team led for nearly the entire first half but Simpson University battled back in the second half to upset the Redhawks in overtime, 94-92. The Redhawks jumped on the board fast and utilized an 11-0 run to gain a 13-2 lead five minutes into the first half. The Redhawks would maintain a ten point lead through most of the half.
Simpson shot 63% from the field in second and 72.7% from the three point mark to outscore the Redhawks 54-44 in the second and tie the game forcing the Redhawks first OT contest of the season. The Redhawks were unable to shut down Simpson's offense allowing the Red Hawks of Simpson to shoot 75% from the field in OT while BenU only shot for 28.7% from the field. Michael Kirkland and Damian Zivak both finished with 22 points making it the second time this season two players finished with 20 points or more in a game.
The Redhawks capped the weekend with a 78-53 loss against UC Merced. BenU forced two lead changes and four ties in the first half. The Redhawks shot 40.7% from the field while UC Merced shot 60% from the field. Damian Zivak and Michael Kirkland led the Redhawks with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
