Men's Basketball defeated the Westcliff Warriors, 74-64 on Thursday night in Irvine, CA.
The Redhawks hit the first shot of the game to go up 2-0. The two teams then went back-in-forth between who had the lead until the 11-minute mark when the Warriors pulled away by 8, 8-16.
Jamaal Wright then entered the game and immediately got a layup to stop the Warriors 8-point run. This gives the Redhawks the jump start they needed to get back in the game, and by 7:21 they had tied up the game 20-20. But the tie doesn't last long as the Warriors soon take back the lead. But with 4 minutes left, the Redhawks once again tie the game 28-28. This is when the game flips and
Eric Norton goes on to score 8 points to finish out the half with the Redhawks leading, 36-32.
After the half, the Warriors try to come back and take the lead, tying up the game 36-36. But the Redhawks hold on, going up 38-36. From then on, the Redhawks don't let the Warriors regain the lead for the rest of the game. Rather, the men just add to their lead pushing it to 13 points at the highest. Yet, with 5:27 on the clock the Warriors cut the lead to 3, 59-56. The Redhawks were unfazed and didn't lose their lead and finish out the game only letting the Warriors score 8 more points. The Redhawks finish out the game 74-64.
Eric Norton had an excellent game scoring 30 points, 6 off from his season and career high. Norton also had 4 rebounds and shot 50% from the field.
Deven Franks had the team high of 4 steals and a block, not to mention 15 points to help seal the win. Quincey Reece was one rebound away from a double-double, having scored 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The Redhawk men will be back in action against the University of Saint Katherine on Saturday, January 6
