The Benedictine Mesa Baseball team clinched victories in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against Fraser Valley, with scores of 10-3 and 7-6.
In the initial game,
Preston Vine-Close secured the first run for the Redhawks in the opening inning, courtesy of a single from
Carlos Parra to right field. Although Fraser Valley leveled the score 1-1 in the second inning,
Jack Fitzgerald's triple in the bottom of the 2nd inning brought Joe Cosenza home, making it 1-2. The 4th inning saw Fitzgerald contributing again with a double, allowing Ivan Santos to score. Vine-Close followed up with a sacrifice fly, bringing Consenza home. Benedictine scored 5 runs in the 5th inning, with contributions from
Dylan Bangs,
Daniel Miranda, Ivan Santos, Joe Consenza, and
Anthony Sortino. Despite Fraser Valley scoring 2 runs in the 6th inning, BenU emerged victorious with a final score of 10-3.
In the second game, Fraser Valley took an early lead with two runs in the top of the 1st inning.
Kyle Fenner managed to score on a throw in the bottom, making it 1-2. Fraser Valley added one more run in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd inning,
Kyle Fenner scored on a single by
Daniel Miranda to left field. The 4th inning saw
Oliver Davies scoring on a wild pitch, and
Anthony Sortino scored on
Alec Larson's single to center field, bringing the score to 4-3. In the 5th inning,
Jacob Bauler and
Carlos Parra scored on a wild pitch and an error by the catcher, respectively, making it 6-3. However, Fraser Valley tied the game 6-6 in the 6th inning. In the 8th inning,
Anthony Sortino scored, thanks to a double by
Alec Larson, securing a 7-6 victory for Benedictine.
