Softball Wins Doubleheader Against Saint Katherine

The Benedictine Mesa Softball team secured a doubleheader victory against Saint Katherine on Monday. In the first game, the Redhawks triumphed 4-1, followed by a commanding 9-1 win in the second game, where they invoked the run rule in the 5th inning.

In the opening game, Lauren Franco kicked off the scoring in the 2nd inning for BenU, courtesy of a single from Paige Salazar. McKenzie Hamilton extended the lead in the 3rd inning, making it 2-0. Benedictine capitalized on opportunities in the 4th inning, with Natasha Lawrence and Amanda Clack crossing the plate, aided by an error and a sacrifice fly from McKenzie Hamilton. Despite Saint Katherine scoring a run in the 6th inning, the Redhawks maintained their lead and secured the victory.

The second game saw Saint Katherine taking an early lead in the first inning. However, Benedictine quickly responded in the bottom of the 1st with a run from Gabi Perez, who stole home. Brandee Ayala added to the tally in the 3rd inning, scoring on a single from Samantha Lawrence. The Redhawks surged ahead in the 4th inning, with Lei Madrazo, Amanda Clack, McKenzie Hamilton, Brandee Ayala, and Gabi Perez all crossing the plate to make it 7-1. Natasha Lawrence and Lei Madrazo sealed the victory in the 5th inning, reaching the run rule with Natasha scoring on a triple by Lei and Lei scoring on a single by Brandee. The final score stood at 9-1 in favor of the Redhawks.
