Baseball Wins Series Against Antelope Valley

The Benedictine Mesa Baseball team split the doubleheader with Antelope Valley on Saturday. The Redhawks lost game one 4-8 but bounced back to win game two 18-12, securing the series against Antelope Valley.

In game one, Antelope Valley took an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. BenU responded in the bottom of the 1st, with Parra scoring off a single to second base from Dylan Bangs. Alec Larson scored in the sixth inning on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 2-3. Antelope Valley added 4 more runs. In the bottom of the 9th inning, Cameron Jowaiszas hit a home run, bringing him and Ryan Curran home, but the Redhawks fell short, losing 4-8.

In the second game, Benedictine started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning; Kyle Fenner scored on a center field error, and Dan Miranda stole home. In the second inning, Oliver Davies scored on a third base error, and Carlos Parra brought the score to 4-0 with a single. Antelope Valley took the lead in the third inning with 7 runs. BenU responded with a home run by Dan Miranda. Carlos Parra's single in the fourth allowed Oliver Davies to score. In the 5th inning, Benedictine scored 4 runs: Cameron Jowaiszas' home run brought him and Ryan Curran home, Dylan Bangs scored on a single by Davies, and Jack Fitzgerald scored on a sacrifice fly by Parra. Antelope Valley then scored 4 runs, retaking the lead 10-11. In the 7th inning, Carlos Parra's ground out allowed Antony Sortino to score. In the 8th inning, the Redhawks scored 7 runs, with Bangs, Joe Consenza, Ryan Curran, Sortino, Davies, Parra, and Preston Vine-Close all crossing home plate. Antelope Valley scored one more run in the 9th, but BenU held on to win 18-12.
