On day one of the NAIA West Qualifier, the Benedictine Mesa Beach Volleyball team faced tough competition, losing both matches. In their opening game against Corban, the Redhawks were defeated 0-5. Despite a valiant effort, Benedictine fell short against Saint Katherine, with a final score of 1-4.
Against Corban, Benedictine's top pair, Kyle Bartel and
Annika Wallace, struggled, losing both sets 11-21 and 8-21.
Megan Hicks and
Jewel Carling, the second pair, fought hard but ultimately lost 16-21 and 14-21.
Anna Brytkowska and
Haley Lopez, the third pair, displayed determination but lost 16-21 and 17-21.
Hattie Patton and
Courtney Ely, the fourth pair, narrowly missed out on the first set, losing 22-24, and fell 17-21 in the second.
Sophie Drollinger and Haley White, the fifth pair, came up short, losing 15-21 and 17-21.
In the subsequent match against the University of Saint Katherine, Bartel and Wallace lost the first set 9-21 but showed improvement in the second, finishing 17-21. Hicks and Carling secured a victory in both sets, with scores of 21-14. Brytkowska and Lopez struggled, losing 9-21 and 8-21. Patton and Ely claimed the first set 21-15 but couldn't maintain momentum, dropping the next two sets 10-21 and 10-15. Drollinger and White lost the first game 12-21 and narrowly missed the second, ending 18-21.
The Redhawks will resume their campaign on day two of the NAIA West Qualifier, facing off against The College of Idaho at 11 AM.
