The Benedictine University Mesa beach volleyball team competed in two challenging matches on Thursday at the Arizona Athletic Grounds as part of the
GSAC Beach Volleyball Tournament, facing The Master's University and Arizona Christian University.
Match 1: The Master's vs. Benedictine Mesa
Benedictine Mesa opened tournament play against The Master's University in a tightly contested dual. The Redhawks picked up key points throughout the lineup but ultimately fell short as TMU secured the team victory.
At the No. 1 flight,
Taylor Erickson and Sophie Drollinger delivered a strong performance for BENU, earning a straight-set win over Emma Winter and Zoe Yates. The Redhawks added another point at the No. 3 spot, where
Daisy Motes and Izabella Duchaine defeated Addy Brock and Ashlyn Unruh to keep the score close.
The Master's answered with wins in the remaining flights. Ashlan Van Groningen and Isabela Rodriguez edged past
Amaya Evans and
Nichole Gary at No. 2, while TMU also claimed victories at flights four and five to seal the dual.
Match 2: Arizona Christian vs. Benedictine Mesa
Later in the day, the Redhawks returned to the sand to take on Arizona Christian University. The matchup featured hard-fought points and close battles in multiple flights as both teams exchanged momentum throughout the dual.
Amaya Evans and Nichole Gary earned an important win for Benedictine Mesa at the No. 2 flight, defeating Jaiden Zeis and Abby Siebert of ACU.
Arizona Christian secured wins in more than half of the lineup, including the No. 1 flight where Emily Casner and Emee Fellens defeated Erickson and Drollinger. ACU also earned victories at flights three and four to take the overall dual.
