The Benedictine Mesa Baseball Team kicked off the Cal Pac Tournament with a thrilling 10-9 victory over Westcliff.
Benedictine took an early lead as
Cameron Jowaiszas blasted a homer, bringing himself and
Daniel Miranda home.
Carlos Parra's single to center field allowed
Anthony Sortino to score, and an error by the center fielder saw
Alec Larson crossing the plate, ending the inning 4-0. Westcliff fought back in the 4th inning, scoring six runs to take the lead 4-6. In the bottom of the 5th,
Jack Fitzgerald's single and a passed ball allowed Benedictine to tie the game at 6-6. Miranda's sacrifice fly in the same inning regained the lead. However, Westcliff surged ahead again in the 8th inning with three runs. In the bottom of the 8th,
Ryan Curran's sacrifice fly brought
Preston Vine-Close home, narrowing the gap to 8-9. In the bottom of the 9th, Jowaiszas' double allowed pinch runner
Kyle Fenner to tie the game at 9-9.
Oliver Davies' single then brought Sortino home, securing the dramatic victory.
