Baseball Falls to Embry-Riddle, but Wins Semifinals Against Westcliff

The Benedictine Mesa Baseball Team dropped their first game of the day to Embry-Riddle 4-9, but they still advanced to the semifinals where they played Westcliff and were able to win 15-2 in 7 innings. 
 
In the first game, Embry scored first in the second inning and put 6 runs on the board. In the bottom of the 2ndCameron Jowaiszas hit a homerun to bring hm and Daniel Miranda home and cutting the lead to 4. In the 5thinning Carlos Parra grounded out to short stop but Oliver Davies was able to make it home to score bringing he score to 4-6. In the 9th Embry-Riddle scored 3 additional runs bringing the score to 4-9. The Redhawks couldn't answer back and lost the game. 
 
Due to the tournament's double elimination, Benedictine still moved on to the semifinals in which they played the Westcliff Warriors. In the top of the 2nd inning of that game, Ryan Curran was able to score after being walked and stealing second. Jose Romero then doubled to left field to bring Preston Vine-Close home. Next Oliver Davies singled to center to bring pinch runner Anthony Sortino home bringing the score to 3-0. In the 3rd, Daniel Miranda doubled to left field to allow Jowaiszas and Parra to score. Davies was then hit by a pitch and with bases loaded this allowed Miranda to score. Lastly Alec Larson singled to center to allow Anthony Sortino and Preston Vine-Close to score bringing the score to 8-0. In the 5th inning Westcliff was able to score 2 runs to cut the lead. But in the 7th inning Jowaiszas doubled to right field to allow Parra to score. Miranda then hit a homerun to bring him, Jowaiszas, and Fitzgerald home. Alec Larson then hit a single to center and Joseph Cosenza and Kyle Fenner scored. Lastly Fitzgerald singled to short stop to bring Larson and Sortino home to bring the score to 15-2. Westcliff couldn't answer in the bottom of the inning and the Redhawks won the game. 
 
Key Players:
Anthony Sortino had 3 runs in game two. 
Daniel Miranda had 3 hits on 4 at bats and 1 run in game one. Miranda had double and a homerun with 2 runs and 5 RBIs in the second game. 
Cameron Jowaiszas had a homerun 1 run and 2 RBIs in game one. Cameron had 3 hits on 6 at bats one being a double with 2 runs and 1 RBI in game two. 
Jared Cruce pitched 7 innings in game two and only allowed 2 runs only one being earned with 6 strikeouts. 
 
Looking Ahead: The Redhawks move on to the Championship game tomorrow against Embry-Riddle at 12 PM at Hohokam. The Redhawks need to win the first game and the second due to the double elimination to claim the Cal Pac Tournament Championship Title.
