Alec Larson doubled and later scored on a balk, giving the Redhawks a 3-2 lead. However, Simpson regained control in the fourth with a two-RBI single by Lee to make it 4-3.
The Redhawks tied the game again in the fifth on
Kyle Fenner's run, scored via a sacrifice fly by
Jack Moore. But Simpson edged ahead in the sixth on a fielder's choice and padded their lead with two unearned runs in the seventh, making it 7-4.
Benedictine rallied in the eighth with
Preston Vine-Close scoring on an RBI single from
Jose Romero to close the gap to 7-5. Despite their best efforts, the Redhawks couldn't complete the comeback in the ninth.
