Baseball Fall Short in Hard-Fought Battle Against Simpson

The Benedictine Mesa Baseball Team put up a strong fight but fell to Simpson in a close contest on Saturday, 7-5.

Simpson struck early in the first inning as Hotta doubled, stole third, and scored on an RBI single. Benedictine responded with an Alec Larson double in the bottom of the inning but couldn't bring him home. Simpson added another run in the second, capitalizing on a defensive error, though the Redhawks kept them from doing more damage.

Momentum shifted to Benedictine in the third inning when Carlos Parra launched a two-run homer to tie the game. Alec Larson doubled and later scored on a balk, giving the Redhawks a 3-2 lead. However, Simpson regained control in the fourth with a two-RBI single by Lee to make it 4-3.

The Redhawks tied the game again in the fifth on Kyle Fenner's run, scored via a sacrifice fly by Jack Moore. But Simpson edged ahead in the sixth on a fielder's choice and padded their lead with two unearned runs in the seventh, making it 7-4.

Benedictine rallied in the eighth with Preston Vine-Close scoring on an RBI single from Jose Romero to close the gap to 7-5. Despite their best efforts, the Redhawks couldn't complete the comeback in the ninth.
