The Benedictine Mesa Women's Beach Volleyball Team notched their first two wins of the season with a dominant 5-0 sweep over Life Pacific and an impressive 4-1 victory against No. 9 Hope International.
In their first match, the Redhawks controlled the court against Life Pacific. Taylor Erickson and Kylie Bartel set the tone in the top flight with a commanding 21-13, 21-14 win over Mackenzie Stewart and Kate Murray. Amaya Evans and Annika Wallace secured a victory by forfeit in the second flight, while Megan Hicks and Daisey Motes kept the momentum going with a solid 21-13, 21-15 win against Emma McMillan and Iliana Galindo. Nichole Gary and Anna Brytkowska delivered another strong performance, defeating Jocelyn Hernandez and Gracelyn Myhre 21-16, 21-16. Sophie Drollinger and Ella Burton rounded out the sweep with a hard-fought 21-12, 22-20 victory over Mya Castro and Kylie Proctor.
Benedictine Mesa carried that momentum into their second match, taking down nationally ranked Hope International 4-1. Erickson and Bartel once again led the way in the top flight, securing a 21-18, 21-12 victory over Addie Mathias and Sabrina Galassi. Evans and Wallace followed up with a decisive 21-13, 21-10 win against Kat Schwab and Carmelina Infante. Hope International earned their lone point in the third flight, as Rachael Street and Naomi Ruiz edged out Hicks and Motes in a close 21-15, 22-20 battle. However, the Redhawks responded with Gary and Brytkowska claiming a 21-14, 21-16 win over Phoebe Sebby and Maci Hendry. The final point came in dramatic fashion, as Drollinger and Burton battled back from a first-set loss to defeat Emma Pearson and Brandi Ramierez 15-21, 21-19, 15-4.
The Redhawks look to keep their momentum going in their home opener against Colorado Mesa on Thursday, February 20.
