The Benedictine Mesa Women's Beach Volleyball Team fell to No. 2 Arizona Christian in a close 2-3 match Friday morning in their season opener.
Benedictine's No. 1 pair, Kylie Bartel and Taylor Erickson, secured a three-set victory over Arizona Christian's top duo. They claimed the first set 21-16, dropped the second 18-21, but rallied in the third to win 15-10.
The No. 2 pair, Annika Wallace and Amaya Evans, fell in straight sets, 17-21 and 9-21. The No. 3 duo, Megan Hicks and Daisey Motes, pushed their match to three sets but ultimately came up short. They lost the opening set 22-24, bounced back with a dominant 21-13 win in the second, but fell 8-15 in the final frame.
In the No. 4 matchup, Anna Brytkowska and Nichole Gray dropped both sets 17-21. However, Benedictine's No. 5 pair, Sophie Drollinger and Ella Burton, secured a hard-fought victory. They won the first set 21-14, lost the second 15-21, but battled back to clinch the match with a 15-12 win in the third.
Looking Ahead:Â The Redhawks return to the courts on Saturday, February 8, to face Vanguard and Wayland Baptist in Glendale, Arizona.
