Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls to Jamestown in Doubleheader

The Benedictine Mesa baseball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Jamestown, losing a tightly contested opener 7-6 before falling 10-4 in game two.

Game 1: Jamestown 7, Benedictine Mesa 6

Jamestown struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on a wild pitch to bring in J. Singleton for a 1-0 lead. However, the Redhawks responded in a big way, erupting for six runs in the bottom half of the inning. Willie Tatum sparked the rally with an RBI single, followed by run-scoring hits from Jacob Bauler, Preston Vine-Close, and Jude Sullivan. Carlos Parra also contributed with an RBI groundout as Benedictine Mesa took a commanding 6-1 advantage.

Jamestown battled back in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to cut the deficit to 6-5. Roebuck doubled in a run, followed by RBI hits from J. Romero, W. Bachman, and C. Burke.

The game remained tight until the seventh inning when T. Madison delivered the decisive blow for Jamestown—a two-run home run that gave the Jimmies their first lead of the game at 7-6. The Redhawks were unable to rally in the final frame, as Jamestown secured the comeback victory.

Game 2: Jamestown 10, Benedictine Mesa 4

Benedictine Mesa rallied late to take the lead in the sixth inning, but a seven-run explosion by Jamestown in the seventh sealed a 10-4 defeat for the Redhawks.

Jamestown opened the scoring in the second inning when J. Romero reached on an error, allowing T. Madison to score an unearned run. They extended their lead to 2-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly from L. Runge.

The Redhawks found momentum in the fourth when Carlos Parra launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Jamestown responded in the sixth with an RBI single from C. Burke to push their lead to 3-1.

Benedictine Mesa stormed back in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Parra continued his strong performance with an RBI double, followed by a sacrifice fly from Joe Cosenza to tie the game. Jack Moore then delivered an infield single, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to put the Redhawks ahead.

However, the lead was short-lived. Jamestown erupted for seven runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run homer from Madison and a grand slam from R. Muizelaar. The offensive outburst proved too much for Benedictine Mesa to overcome.
