The Benedictine Mesa softball team fell to No. 6 Madonna University, 11-2, on Saturday morning.
The Redhawks struck first in the opening inning when B. Ayala scored on a fielder's choice by A. Jenkins. However, Madonna quickly responded, tying the game with a B. Anteau RBI double before R. Fitzpatri tripled and later scored on an error to give the Crusaders a 3-1 lead.
Madonna extended its advantage in the second inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues. Anteau's single down the right-field line brought in two unearned runs, followed by an RBI double from A. Rosiewicz, pushing the score to 6-1.
The Crusaders put the game out of reach in the third, adding four more runs. M. Ming and R. Finkbeine each drove in runs, while an error allowed two more to cross the plate, making it an 11-1 game.
Benedictine Mesa found some late momentum in the fourth inning when G. Perez crushed a solo home run to right center, cutting the deficit to 11-2. However, the Redhawks couldn't generate further offense as Madonna's pitching and defense sealed the victory.
