Benedictine Mesa came up short in both games of Friday's home doubleheader against Hope International, falling 9–1 in game one and 13–6 in game two.
Game 1 Recap:
The Redhawks struggled to contain a hot Hope International offense in the series opener. The Royals jumped out to an early 4–0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on a pair of timely hits, including a three-run homer. Benedictine Mesa got on the board in the third, when A.J. Fernandez scored on a passed ball, but it would be their only run of the game. Hope continued to add to its lead with a solo homer, a double, and a series of unearned runs. Despite putting runners on base, the Redhawks were unable to mount a comeback, ultimately falling 9–1.
Game 2 Recap:
Game two saw Benedictine fall into an early hole once again, as Hope International opened with five runs in the first and added five more in the second to go up 10–0. The Redhawks showed signs of life in the sixth inning, putting together a five-run rally. Kyle Fenner sparked the offense with a triple, followed by a two-run double from Jacob Bauler and an RBI double by Oliver Davies. An error allowed another run to score, cutting the deficit to 12–5. Ty Campbell added a solo home run in the seventh, but the early damage proved too much to overcome as the Redhawks dropped the second game 13–6.
