Game Recap: Baseball |

Redhawks Rally Late but Can't Overcome Royals

The Benedictine Mesa baseball team came up short in both games of Saturday's home doubleheader against Hope International, falling 10–5 in game one and 13–7 in the second matchup.

Game 1 Recap:
Benedictine Mesa battled back in the later innings but ultimately couldn't close the gap in a 10–5 loss to the Royals. Hope International jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the first and adding two more in the second. They extended their advantage to 7–0 by the sixth before the Redhawks found their rhythm. Jacob Bauler sparked a rally with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, followed by an RBI single from Oliver Davies to bring the score to 7–3.

Hope responded with three insurance runs in the ninth, but Benedictine continued to fight. Carlos Parra drove in a run with a single, and Kyle Fenner came around to score on an error to make it 10–5. The Redhawks showed grit in the final innings but couldn't mount the full comeback.

Game 2 Recap:
The second game saw another offensive surge from Hope International, but Benedictine Mesa kept pace with a power-packed performance of their own. After falling behind 8–0 following a seven-run burst by the Royals in the third, the Redhawks answered immediately. Tyler Jackson belted a two-run home run, and Carlos Parra followed with a solo shot to cut into the lead.

The Redhawks chipped away again in the sixth with back-to-back home runs from Ben Schnuman and Preston Vine-Close, closing the gap to 11–7. Despite the momentum, Hope added two more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
