Softball Closes Out Season with Split Against Nelson University

The Benedictine Mesa Softball team wrapped up their season with a doubleheader split against Nelson University, taking game one in a thrilling 4-3 win before falling 12-3 in game two.

Game 1:
The Redhawks came out strong in the opener, jumping to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Shayera McDaniel sparked the offense with an RBI single to center, scoring Annaleia Jenkins. Moments later, McDaniel and Gabi Perez both crossed the plate on a defensive error, giving Benedictine a quick 3-0 advantage. Nelson chipped away at the lead with a run in the third and tied it in the fifth on a two-run homer. However, Benedictine responded in the sixth as Savannah Howard delivered a clutch RBI double to left, driving in McDaniel. Despite a close play at the plate that resulted in an out, the Redhawks held onto the lead and closed out the game with solid defense to secure the 4-3 victory.

Game 2:
In the second game, the momentum swung in Nelson's favor as they came out firing, scoring early and often. Benedictine rallied in the fourth inning to erase a 3-0 deficit. Jenkins knocked in a run with a single, and Chiago followed with a two-RBI triple to tie the game at 3-3. But the Redhawks couldn't contain Nelson's bats, who pulled away with five runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hits. Despite the early comeback, Benedictine ultimately fell 12-3.
