Redhawks Revival with Late Rally in Coach Lawlers Debut

Out in Chandler, Benedictine University Mesa looked to start the 2025-26 season with a new era of baseball under head coach Travis Lawler against Justice College on Friday.

In a large deficit to start the game, the Redhawks clawed their way back in the eighth and won the game in the bottom of the ninth to win 11-10.

The Redhawks started the game taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Jack Moore scored on a passed ball. Justice answered in the top of the next two innings scoring three runs with two more in the sixth, with a 8-1 lead.

Benedictine got back on the board 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh scoring one-run from an Ethan Graham single that knocked in AJ Fernandez

The tide turned in the bottom of the seventh, as the Redhawks scored seven runs behind patient and clutch hitting with runners on base. This started with an Oliver Davies single that started it off. A little later with runners on second and third Tyson Treadgill's single brought in Davies. On the next at-bat Ben Schnurman hit a double into center field that brought in Jack Moore. After several more walked batters and a wild pitch two more runs came in. Zeus Durazo's single delivered home two more runs with bases loaded. With two runners on, Jack Moore's sac fly brought in Durazo giving them a one run lead at 9-8.

Going into the final inning, Justice scored 2 runs taking a 10-9 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. Benedictine found hope as three of its first four batters got on base by walk or being hit by a pitch. With bases loaded and one out, Ethan Graham was hit by a pitch that brought a runner in tying the game at nine a piece. Down to its last out with bases loaded, an infield error hit by Davies scored the game winning run with a score of 11-10.
