The Benedictine Mesa women's soccer team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday, defeating Justice College 7-0 behind seven goals from six different players and a stifling defensive effort.
The Redhawks controlled play from the opening whistle, creating numerous scoring opportunities throughout the first half. Michaela Dennehy broke through in the sixth minute, scoring her first goal of the season to give Benedictine a 1-0 lead. The Redhawks continued to pressure the Justice defense, hitting the crossbar twice and out shooting the hosts by a wide margin. Despite a missed penalty kick in the19th minute, Benedictine carried its one-goal advantage into halftime.
The floodgates opened after the break.
Rylee Hatcher doubled the lead in the 55th minute with her first goal of the season before Rebecca Tomerlin scored just over six minutes later to make it 3-0. Tomerlin struck again less than three minutes later, recording her second goal of the match and extending the advantage to 4-0.
Benedictine continued to pile on in the second half. Kyleya Meltebarger found the back of the net in the 73rd minute off an assist from Hatcher, pushing the lead to 5-0. Hatcher added her second goal of the contest in the 78th minute, finishing a setup from Isabella Misquez, and Neshma Rodriguez capped the scoring less than two minutes later on an assist from Tomerlin.
