The Benedictine Mesa Beach Volleyball team had a mixed performance on day 1 of the second Cal Pac Jamboree, splitting their games. They started strong against Simpson, securing a 4-1 victory, but faced a tough defeat against Saint Katherine, losing 0-5.
Against Simpson, the duo of
Kylie Bartel and
Megan Hicks in the one's pair showed resilience, bouncing back from a first-set loss (17-21) to win the next two sets (21-9, 15-9) and clinch the match.
Jewel Carling and
Courtney Ely, the two's pair, dominated in straight sets (21-15, 21-12), securing another win.
Anna Brytkowska and
Haley Lopez, playing in the three's pair, fought hard but ultimately lost in two close sets (19-21, 16-21).
Amanda Klotz and
Christina Sanchez, the fours pair, won in straight sets (21-19, 21-17), while Haley White and
Keelan Memory, in the fives pair, also secured a straight-set victory (21-11, 21-10).
However, in the second match against Saint Katherine, the Redhawks faced tougher opposition. Bartel and Hicks fell in straight sets (13-21, 18-21), as did Carling and Ely (13-21, 10-21). Brytkowska and Lopez struggled, losing decisively (8-21, 9-21). Klotz and Sanchez, playing as the fours, fought hard but were unable to clinch victory, losing in two sets (18-21, 15-21). Finally, White and Memory also suffered a defeat, losing in straight sets (13-21, 8-21).
Looking ahead, the Redhawks will return to action on Saturday, March 23, for day two of the Cal Pac Jamboree.
