The Benedictine Mesa softball team split their doubleheader with Bushnell, claiming a dominant 6-0 victory in Game 1 before falling 4-0 in the second matchup.
Game 1 Recap
The Redhawks set the tone early, securing a convincing 6-0 win behind strong offensive execution and defensive pressure. Annalei Jenkins got Benedictine on the board in the first inning with an RBI single to center, bringing in Brandee Ayala for a quick 1-0 lead. The momentum continued in the second when Amaya Ruiz doubled to center, scoring Chloe Wright while Savannah Howard advanced to third. Moments later, an error by the shortstop allowed Howard to score, extending the lead to 3-0. Jenkins struck again in the same inning with an RBI single to right, plating Ruiz and pushing the advantage to 4-0.
The Redhawks tacked on two more runs in the fifth, capitalizing on Bushnell's defensive miscues. Jenkins crossed home plate on an error by the second baseman, and Stephany Aguirre later scored on an infield single by Ruiz. With efficient hitting and solid defense, Benedictine Mesa controlled the game from start to finish, earning the shutout win.
Game 2 Recap
Bushnell bounced back in Game 2, shutting out the Redhawks 4-0. The Beacons took advantage of early opportunities, scoring in the first inning when a groundout allowed an unearned run to cross the plate. They extended their lead in the fourth, as a two-run single to right field pushed the deficit to 3-0. Bushnell added one final run in the seventh on an RBI groundout, sealing the 4-0 win. Despite solid efforts, Benedictine's offense struggled to find its rhythm in the second matchup.
