The Benedictine Mesa Women's Volleyball Beach team faced a challenging day on Saturday, dropping both matches against tough opponents.
Game 1 vs. Vanguard University:
In a hard-fought match, the Redhawks battled against Vanguard University, but ultimately fell short in a series of closely contested games. The first match featured Kylie Bartel and Taylor Erickson, who faced Thea Snider and Emma Galloway from Vanguard. Despite a valiant effort, they lost 15-21, 21-16, 15-13. Following this, Amaya Evans and Annika Wallace took to the court but were unable to overcome Paige Cutwright and Madison Arnold, who secured a victory with a score of 21-16, 21-15. The momentum continued to swing in Vanguard's favor as Katie Alexander and Anne Mayfield narrowly edged out Daisy Motes and Megan Hicks, winning 23-21, 21-16. The match turned decisively when Cassie Smits VanOyen and Gianna Pecile defeated Sophie Drollinger and Ella Burton 21-7, 21-15. Logan Daniels and Natalie Hill capped off Vanguard's success by overcoming Anna Brytkowska and Haley Lopez 21-13, 21-14. In an extra match, Mariah Rua and Ily Attinger triumphed over Vivianna Galvan and Kenley Horton with a score of 21-16, 21-19. Despite the setbacks, the Redhawks demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the matches.
Game 2 vs. Wayland Baptist University:
In their second match of the day, the Redhawks faced Wayland Baptist University. Kylie Bartel and Taylor Erickson started strong, decisively defeating Martyna Lewinska and Carlee Heidebrecht 21-7, 21-13, giving Benedictine an early advantage. However, the tide turned when Amaya Evans and Annika Wallace battled Selma Sutaj and Emily Buchberger, losing a hard-fought match 21-19, 15-21, 15-8. The Redhawks responded as Megan Hicks and Daisy Motes fought valiantly against Jordan Schlageler and Deniz Yileri, securing a victory with a score of 21-14, 16-21, 15-10. The competition remained fierce, with Averi Penner and Luiza Valentim edging out Ella Burton and Sophie Drollinger 21-15, 13-21, 16-14. In the final matchup, Lilou Henry-Souquet and Frida Espeseth of Wayland Baptist triumphed over Anna Brytkowska and Haley Lopez, finishing 21-16, 19-21, 15-9. Despite the challenging day, the Redhawks showcased their skill and resilience.
