Baseball Splits Doubleheader with The Master's

Game 1:
Benedictine Mesa outlasted The Master's in a back-and-forth contest, using a four-run eighth inning to secure a dramatic 9–8 victory.

The Master's struck first in the top of the opening inning. After a leadoff single by Cole Rohlmeier and a double from Isaiah Morales, Emilio Morales lined an RBI single to center to give the Mustangs a 1–0 lead.

Benedictine Mesa answered immediately in the bottom half. Anthony Setticasi reached on a single, moved into scoring position, and eventually crossed the plate on a throwing error to tie the game at 1–1.

After a quiet second inning, Benedictine Mesa grabbed the lead in the third. Capitalizing on an error, the Redhawks plated two unearned runs on an RBI double by Jack Moore and an RBI single from AJ Fernandez to go ahead 3–1.

The Redhawks extended their advantage in the fourth. RBI hits from Setticasi and Moore pushed the lead to 5–1, putting pressure on The Master's pitching staff.

The Mustangs responded in the fifth inning. Ty Beck doubled and later scored prompting a pitching change. With the bases loaded, Zach Jenkins worked an RBI walk and Scotty Pieper was hit by a pitch to drive in another run, trimming the deficit to 5–3.

Both teams remained locked in defensively through the sixth and seventh, highlighted by multiple pickoffs and double plays that stalled potential rallies.

The turning point appeared in the top of the eighth when The Master's erupted for three runs. Cole Rohlmeier delivered the big blow, singling to right field and driving in two runs, followed by an RBI single from Beck. The Mustangs reclaimed the lead at 8–5.

But Benedictine Mesa answered with their biggest inning of the day.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Redhawks sent nine batters to the plate. AJ Fernandez came through with a two-RBI single, and the tying and go-ahead runs scored on aggressive baserunning and another defensive miscue. Ben Schnurman capped the rally with an RBI triple, swinging the game back in Benedictine Mesa's favor, 9–8.

The Master's mounted one last push in the ninth. Hits from Scotty Pieper and Mikey Murr brought the Mustangs close, but a strikeout with a runner in scoring position ended the comeback bid.

Game 2:
Benedictine Mesa showed resilience throughout the afternoon, answering early challenges and staying within striking distance, but a four-run seventh inning by The Master's proved decisive as the Redhawks fell 7–5.

The Master's jumped out early with two runs in the top of the first, but Benedictine Mesa wasted no time responding. Jack Moore sparked the offense with a single, and AJ Fernandez delivered an RBI double to bring the Redhawks within one. Moments later, Tyson Treadgill drove in the tying run with an RBI single, evening the score at 2–2 after one inning.

Despite The Master's reclaiming the lead with a run in the second, Benedictine Mesa continued to answer offensively. Anthony Setticasi singled home Jonas Dyas in the bottom of the second to make it a one-run game again.

Benedictine Mesa tied the game once more in the third when Tyler Jackson laced an RBI double to left, scoring Oliver Davies. The Redhawks then took their first lead of the afternoon in the fourth, as Fernandez collected his second RBI of the game with a clutch two-out single to center, putting Benedictine Mesa ahead 5–3.

Setticasi added another run in the fifth, reaching on a single after an error and later scoring to extend the lead to 6–3. At that point, Benedictine Mesa had scored in five consecutive innings and appeared to have momentum firmly on its side.

The Master's capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting in the seventh, scoring four runs to regain the lead. Benedictine Mesa cycled through arms to limit the damage, but the inning proved to be the difference.

The Redhawks were unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh, as The Master's closed out the game to secure the 7–5 win.
