The Benedictine Mesa women's soccer team came up against a potent Southern Oregon attack on Saturday evening, falling 10-1 to the Raiders at home.
Southern Oregon applied pressure early, but the Redhawks defense held firm through the opening 18 minutes. Goalkeeper Nenna Ford made several key saves and Josephine Cisneros recorded a defensive save to keep the match scoreless. The Raiders eventually broke through in the 19th minute when Tori Lasch scored off a corner kick opportunity to give Southern Oregon a 1-0 lead.
Lasch added her second goal in the 30th minute before Alia Villa found the back of the net six minutes later, sending the Raiders into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.
Southern Oregon extended its lead quickly in the second half, scoring three goals in the opening four minutes. Lasch completed her hat trick in the 47th minute, while Ava Johnson tallied three goals of her own, including a penalty kick conversion.
The Redhawks got on the board in the 55th minute when Rebecca Tomerlin set up Rylee Hatcher for her first goal of the season. Hatcher's strike cut the deficit to 6-1 and provided a bright spot for Benedictine Mesa in the second half.
Ford finished the match with 14 saves while facing a barrage of Southern Oregon shots. Tatum Lally also saw time in goal and made three saves for the Redhawks.
Benedictine Mesa generated several opportunities throughout the match, receiving shots from Hatcher, Cassandra Sandoval, Isabella Misquez, Michaela Dennehy, and Ford. Southern Oregon added four late goals to secure the final 10-1 result.
