Softball Splits Doubleheader with British Columbia

Benedictine Mesa battled through both ends of Monday's doubleheader, dropping Game 1 before bouncing back with a strong all-around performance to take Game 2 against British Columbia.

Game 1: Redhawks Battle but Fall 4–1
The Redhawks created early pressure, putting two runners in scoring position in the first inning behind hits from Annaleia Jenkins and Chloe Wright, but couldn't cash in. UBC built a 3–0 lead through three innings, though Benedictine Mesa stayed close thanks to clean defense and steady pitching.

BENU broke through in the third when Jenkins recorded his second hit and later scored on a Thunderbird error, cutting the deficit to 3–1. The Redhawks held UBC scoreless over the next three frames, highlighted by a stretch of seven straight retired by the pitching staff. Late chances came in both the sixth and seventh, including a pinch-hit single from Jacquelyn Morales, but Benedictine Mesa couldn't find the big swing it needed, ultimately falling 4–1.

Game 2: Redhawks Respond With 6–3 Victory
Benedictine Mesa flipped the script in the nightcap, striking immediately as Shayla Young launched a solo home run in the first. The Redhawks exploded for four more runs in the second, featuring an RBI double from Morales and a key two-run reach-on-error from Jenkins. Young added a sacrifice fly to make it 5–0.

Defensively, the Redhawks held strong, allowing just one run through the middle innings. Young continued to spark the offense in the fifth—walking, stealing second, and then swiping home on a double-steal sequence to extend the lead to 6–1.

UBC threatened late, scoring once in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Benedictine Mesa's bullpen shut down each rally to secure the 6–3 win.
