Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Splits Doubleheader but Wins Series

Game 1:
Benedictine Mesa stayed close through five innings, but a big late push lifted Park–Gilbert to a 12–5 win on Saturday.

Park opened with two runs in the first on RBI hits from Noelle Gumm and Briannica Titus. Benedictine answered with a run on a Mackenzie Larson triple, and the teams traded single runs in the second as Park held a 3–2 lead.

After a quiet stretch, Park added a run in the fifth before the Redhawks closed the gap to 4–3 on an error. The Buccaneers then broke the game open in the sixth, scoring three runs—two coming on a Benedictine miscue—to go up 7–3.

Benedictine responded with a two-run single from Larson to cut the deficit to 7–5.

Park sealed the game with a five-run seventh, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Arianna Fjeldsted, who finished with four hits and four RBI. Benedictine was retired in order in the bottom half.
Game 2:
Park–Gilbert and Benedictine Mesa played a low-scoring contest dominated by pitching, with the Buccaneers pulling out a 2–1 win.

Both teams put runners on early, but neither could break through until the fifth inning, when Benedictine's Jasleen Calderon doubled and later scored on an RBI infield single from Negasse Williams for a 1–0 lead.

Park answered in the sixth after an error extended the inning. Dionna Leannio singled, and Noelle Gumm followed with an RBI double to tie the game 1–1. Benedictine briefly regained the lead in the bottom half when Chloe Wright reached on an error and scored on a single by Leiana Madrazo.

Park–Gilbert pitched a clean seventh to lock down the comeback victory.

Despite splitting Saturday's games, Benedictine Mesa secured the series with its two wins on Friday.
